Next Tuesday I’m headed to Seattle from Oregon. I’m trying to be a good person and go up before my wife with our kid so my parents in law who live half way across the country get a chance to see our daughter for an extra day.
My wife just told me that when I arrive... via train... at 10:30 p.m.... with our 2 year old... no one from her family will be there to pick us up. Taking the train was My wife’s idea because she has to work late on Wednesday and there were no feasible train options for her and we want to drive back together. I liked the idea cause my kid loves trains and that Sunday after thanksgiving drive is god awful but come on, help me out a little.
I know a cab will do just fine but it’s not exactly the warm and convenient welcome you’re hoping family is going to give you when you’re trying to be nice.
Or Maybe I’ll just take the goddamn 944 up on Tuesday and make my wife drive my daughter back on Sunday solo, while I take some backroads home...

Can you even put a child seat in that?

Heck yes. It’s a tight fit behind me but fine for around town. When I took her camping I put her in the front seat, which is what I’d probably do if I actually took this on the trip.

Actions against the fairer gender always have consequences, 10 years from now you will be hanging off a cliff and your wife will be standing over you and when you ask her for a rope she may have a story or two to get off her chest before she lowers it lol.
I’ve always thought of taking the train down and wandering down in portland from seattle. I know Uber’s and such are still active pretty late in the evening with the bars and such near the stadium, would probably be exstatic to pick you up vs a group of drunkards.
Where you headed? Some of the transport options run pretty late.

I am also familiar with unenthusiastic family assistance with logistics.

Where in OR are you coming from? 101 from Astoria up to Montesano is pretty cool. Otherwise you are stuck on I-5 which will just be a sh!tshow all next week....

Eugene! Last year on our way back on Sunday it was snowing. God, it was truly awful.

In terms of wife forsaking me in the future, I’m going to her sisters boyfriends house for thanksgiving weekend and he’s inviting a good chunk of his family. So, I think even if I do drive up the 944 and abscond a little on the way home, we would be even.
I don’t know their neighborhood but it’s not that far out of downtown. We will see, apparently I have until Sunday to cancel and still get a refund, I’ll weigh my options...

It seems like you are fairly comfortable with the idea of driving up by the sounds of it. Some very nice roads around here if you know where to look :D. Shame that no one is willing to spend the 1/2 hour to pick you up.
I wouldn’t terribly mind, but 10:30 is fairly late and I rarely end up working that late and stranger danger and all that. You can see the bus station on James street from the Sound Transit Train Terminal if it is where I think it is. Granted some interesting characters may be around at that time of night. Keep us updated!
